C4 – Power system technical performance

Study Committee C4 operates within the Croatian National Committee of CIGRE (HRO CIGRE), following the international CIGRE study-committee taxonomy. Its goal is to enable and promote the advancement of engineering and the international exchange of information and knowledge in its field.

C4 – Power system technical performance

Mission

To enable and promote the advancement of engineering and the international exchange of information and knowledge in the field of the technical characteristics of the power system. Through the synthesis of contemporary practice and the development of recommendations, to add new value to the existing body of knowledge in this field.

Scope

The scope of Study Committee C4 covers advanced methods and tools for power system analysis.

Within this framework, additional specific areas are:

  • Power quality: Continuity of electricity supply and voltage quality (voltage magnitude, frequency, symmetry). The analyses cover assessments of the impact of loads that degrade voltage quality, measurement and simulation methods, identification of quality indices, monitoring techniques, immunity of loads sensitive to disturbances, and disturbance mitigation techniques, taking into account a coordinated approach across all voltage levels.
  • Electromagnetic compatibility (EMC): High-frequency disturbances in the electricity supply and all disturbances (HF and LF) that reach equipment by other means (not via the electricity supply). The studies cover measurement and simulation methods. Health effects associated with low-frequency EM fields are not within the committee scope of work.
  • Power system dynamics: The development of advanced tools and new analytical techniques for assessing power system dynamics/transient properties, security, control design, and modelling of existing and new equipment, real-time stability assessment and control.
  • Lightning strikes: Analysis of lightning strike parameters and interaction with the power system and equipment, including lightning protection of MV and LV networks and standardisation.
  • Insulation coordination: Methods and tools for insulation coordination and the analysis of electromagnetic transient phenomena in the power system and equipment that contribute to the optimisation of costs and reliability.
